A Midsummer Pre-Raphaelite's Dream
The Pre-Raphaelte painters of mid-19th Century England believed in the doctrine that "art is essentially spiritual in character". Deriving inspiration from the brilliant hues of Quattrocento Italian and Medieval images, the Pre-Raphaelites married romanticism and nature. Since childhood, I have been completely fascinated with the Pre-Raphaelites, partly because I live just a stone's throw away from the museum housing the largest collection of PR paintings outside of the UK. Whenever I am in need of quiet inspiration, I walk through the galleries of the museum and stare at the gorgeous paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John William Waterhouse and William Holman Hunt. Just gazing at these marvelous images still deeply moves me. I continue to create photographs which emulate this unique part of art history, albeit, sometimes with a modern twist.
