A Victorian Snow Day
Those of us who live in the Northeastern U.S. have finally thawed out from what was an epic 2009-10 winter with one endless snowstorm after another. While I really do enjoy the feeling of hibernating inside with a good book, a furry cat and a lovely fire, after a while I became very restless and felt my creative juices prodding me to "get going!" So, I pulled out my box of vintage clothing, and set my always-willing mother, Patricia, in the upstairs bathroom with my camera and a sketch of how I envisioned the images I wanted. Out I ventured into the blizzard, while Mom hung her head out the window and snapped the shutter release. Trust me, I was not out there for very long! The result of our collaboration was a fairyland of images reminiscent of the old sillhouette cut-out art from the Victorian Age. Mom and I called ourselves The Cabin Fever Girls, and we made the most of one very cold afternnoon.
SERIES TWO: The Cabin Fever Girls are back! It's now December 2013 and, though it's not yet technically Winter, we've already had several significant snow storms. So, out come the costumes, the camera, the tripod, the Muse (Mom) and the Model (me). Different location, same yard. Stay tuned for more, and savor this quote from Victor Hugo: "The Colors of Spring are in the Flowers; The Colors of Winter are in the Imagination". How true!
